Choosing a Purse For Your Little Girl

Choosing a Purse For Your Little Girl

Does your little one want a purse? Just something to help keep her important things in? What should you do? Is it okay to buy her a purse? First of all, it’s perfectly fine. You don’t actually have to use a purse—any bag will work. On the other hand, you don’t need to spend a whole bunch on one little bag. Here are a few options that will help you to choose a good purse for your little one’s needs.

1. If your little one is the type to pick up random things off the ground that she likes to collect, a little purse would be best. You can also give her a little clear lip gloss or lip balm to keep with her if that will help to encourage her to use it. If she’s a collector of rocks or feathers—pretty much anything that is frequently caught in pockets, then you don’t have to worry about having them everywhere or damaging your washer and dryer because they won’t be in her pockets—they’ll be in her purse.

2. She has a blankie and a favorite stuffed animal. In this case, you may want to look into a little backpack instead. Then she’ll be able to carry everything that she needs with her. Favorite book? Check. Hairbrush? Check. Sticky lollipop that probably should have been thrown away a week ago? Check.

3. Messenger bags. You can find little mini messenger bags at Michael’s craft stores and decorate them however she wants. This is a little bit more versatile and she’s able to keep her collections and blankets/toys all in one spot.

Girls Purses for the Fashion Challenged

There’s nothing sweeter than the little girl who looks at her mommy’s purse and asks for one for herself. Though this is very cute and somewhat tempting, it can be just as difficult as it is sweet to help her choose and pack a purse that goes with her likely varied wardrobe. However, it doesn’t have to be TOO bad – a few tips and tricks of the girls’ fashion trade can help you out a lot when this time comes.

Match Shoes, Not Clothes
One of the biggest mistakes in girls’ fashion when it comes to choosing a long-lasting purse or handbag that goes with everything in the girl’s wardrobe is that of matching. A girl’s gotta coordinate, of course, but there are so many outfits to match to! The good news is that matching your little lady’s shoes rather than her thousands of outfits can be a big help. For example, if you choose several brown color shoes because they go with nearly all outfits in her closet, a brown/neutral shade purse will do the same.

Stay Away From…
There are always those purses you should stay away from at all costs. The exceptions to this rule are very very small girls and girls old enough (like pre-teens) that want to express their rebelliousness by choosing very horrid purses. Some such purses are those with age-specific cartoon or TV show characters on them. If your child is likely to outgrow Dora the Explorer, for example, it’s not wise to buy Dora purses in bulk for her because she wants one right now. A certain color or style, like a slouchy bag, structured, or box purse, can be chosen freely however, as it isn’t as age-restrictive.
